Songs and Seniors presents the benefits of music therapy in a way that is best suited to your community's needs.
- - Address skill areas such as cognition, memory, and motor function
- - Increase social interaction and feelings of well-being
- - Decrease depression, anxiety, and agitated behaviors
- - Active engagement in a fun, musical experience
While individual music therapy sessions are available as well, two options are available for music groups in your residential community or day program.
Music Therapy Groups are designed for small, closed groups, as sessions are tailored and individualized based on the group's needs, abilities, and musical preferences. A formal treatment plan is adopted based on an assessment, and progress on specified goals and objectives is tracked and recorded for each individual participant. Goal areas addressed may include cognition and memory, fine and gross motor skills, communication and speech, and social and emotional needs.
Music Activity Groups emphasize active engagement in music making and social interaction. Participants work on a wide range of skills while enjoying a variety of fun, musical activities. Though grounded in music therapy principles and techniques, music activity groups are designed to be more flexible and open to a much larger number of participants.
